  • Overview

    Collects samples, analyzes specimens, performs QC and instrument maintenance, troubleshoots, reports results, and assists clerical functions. The work is subject to review by appropriate supervisors and the Medical Director of the lab. This position also requires interdepartmental support activities to more effectively provide patient care. These activities may range from assisting with nursing routines training of non-laboratory staff and any other assigned tasks.


    This position requires the ability to move rapidly from location to location within the hospital. This position requires accurate color perception. This position requires variable work hours and weekend/holiday rotation including some scheduling on all shifts. Must maintain a high level of accuracy while simultaneously performing a variety of tests/tasks. Must maintain competency per protocol. This position reports to the shift or department supervisor. Must be contactable by phone for backup coverage or questions. Must stay competent per protocol. Must attend 80 percent of applicable continuing education programs. This position reports to section or shift supervisor. Performs other duties as assigned.


    Must be able to accurately produce test results and evaluate variances; must be capable of consistent, independent judgment under fluctuating workload pressure; must be able to communicate technical information clearly, both in direct communication and by phone. Must be a graduate from an approved Medical Technology program or be able to demonstrate equivalent training. Must have a baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or one of the life or physical sciences. Must meet CLIA88 “Testing Personnel” requirements for moderate and high complexity testing.
