Delivers appropriate radiation per treatment planning and collaborates with other healthcare staff as well as notifies Physician and/or RN of adverse effects/reactions. Records and verifies radiation treatment. Assures radiation protection and safety standards are met. Positions patients and selects anatomic/technical parameters per physician order. Assumes responsibility for the proper use of assigned equipment and applies troubleshooting skills and take appropriate action as necessary. Performs basic hoton/electron calculations. Constructs patient shielding per treatment plan. Collaborates with other healthcare personnel and team members for radiation care. The intent of this summary is to provide a representation of the level and types of duties and responsibilities that will be required of the ideal Radiation Therapist.
Radiation Therapist will help treat cancer by providing the radiation treatments for cancer patients. The Radiation Therapist(s) will collaborate with the doctors, nurses, and medical imaging professionals to treat our cancer patients. The Radiation Therapist will use CT scanners to locate tumor(s), they will use linear accelerators to target and shrink tumors. The Radiation Therapist must also monitor the patient during radiation treatments to adjust the treatments based on the seriousness of the side effects.
Cancer Care, Radiation Therapists will work directly with cancer patients, they must be willing to work in a stressful environment. Keeping a positive attitude is an important attribute of a radiation therapist. They must also be encouraging and cognizant of a person's mood and feelings during this difficult time in the patient's life.
The Radiation Therapist’s daily tasks will include but not be limited to:
•Offer emotional support during difficult times and deliver patient care following the Patient's First Commitment
•Keep detailed medical records of treatments
•Monitor patients during their treatment sessions for side effects and response
•Locate and target tumors using high-tech equipment
Graduate of an accredited program in Radiation Therapy. Must be licensed, ARRT Registered Technologist, Radiation Therapist license in the state of Indiana in good standing.
Preference: Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience
Ability to treat adults and geriatric patients
