    The EEG Tech/Assistant works under the direct supervision of the Sleep & Neurodiagnostic Center Director and Lead Technologist to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of neurologic disorders. This may involve electroencephalography, diagnostic and therapeutic services, or patient care and education. The EEG Tech/Assistant answers phone lines, for all Sleep and EEG centers, in a timely manner while exemplifying excellent customer service and marketing skills. The EEG Tech/Assistant schedules appointments for the Sleep and EEG Centers, including Satellite centers, entering information into Meditech and other scheduling programs. Part of the duties include obtaining physician orders and patient insurance information ensuring that they have been completed properly or working with the physician’s office to obtain the proper information. He/she prepares patient charts and scans or faxes appropriate paperwork to each sleep or EEG center. The EEG Tech/Assistant coordinates the efforts of volunteers and other support staff for complete and efficient functioning of office. Greets all patients in a courteous and professional manner, and provides appropriate information or directs the individual to the proper source. The EEG Tech/Assistant abides by hospital and department policies and procedures as outlined in personnel, hospital and administrative manuals on issues of fire, safety, infection control, codes and, confidentiality. The EEG Tech/Assistant prepares charts and transfers sleep and EEG studies to sleep and EEG staff physicians for interpretation. After the physicians have completed reading the studies, he/she processes the sleep and EEG studies and interpretations which include documenting in patient logbooks, and faxing and scanning information. Responsibilities include patient education of CPAP machine, masks, and equipment along with proper cleaning, replacement, and compliance and keeping in contact with patient, sleep specialist or PCP, and insurance for compliance approval. The EEG Tech/Assistant also works with the automated messaging system.     The EEG Tech/Assistant maximizes patient confidentiality during the scheduling and registration process. The EEG Tech/Assistant acts as the department resource for pre visit, confirmation, and reminder calls to patients for all Sleep and EEG Centers. He/she sends informational letters, emails and text messages to patients and documents patient satisfaction ratings for each technologist. He/she is responsible for verifying insurance coverage and obtaining pre-certs from insurance companies for all appointments. The EEG Tech/Assistant markets to physicians and their offices.


    Develop and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
    Knowledge of healthcare beneficial but not required.
    Will need to learn the role of the EEG and Sleep Technician.
    The Technician will be required to be flexible in available work hours. The schedule will include days, evenings, and nights on various days of the week. Must become a responsible patient educator.
    Independent worker capable of good, quick decision making skills. Must have high school diploma or equivalent. Prior medical office experience is preferred.
